My Story

The saying that "it's in your blood" could never ring more true for me. I have been in and around the woods all my life. From the time I could walk, I was out on the land with my grandfather learning about God's creation and the resources that he had bestowed upon all of us. I started hunting when I was just 8 years old and this is where I first found my love for all things wildlife. Whether it was planting food plots or Quality Deer Management, I was soaking up every piece of information I could get my hands on. It didn't take very long for me to realize that I could make an even greater impact upon wildlife populations by learning good forest management practices. I studied hard and got excellent grades all the way through high school. I was accepted to Georgia Southern University in 2006 where I went on to get my Bachelors Degree in Biology. I was blessed to get a full time job with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the time of graduation. I began my work there in the Forestry, Fish, and Wildlife Section delineating timber stands, preparing timber sales, assisting with wildlife population surveys, and pretty much anything else that pertained to forestry or wildlife. It wasn't until 2010 that I decided that I wanted to achieve greater things in the field of forestry. In 2013, I applied to the University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forest Resources were I was accepted. At the time, I was married, had two children, and a full time job. To say life was stressful during this time would be an understatement, but with the love and support of my wonderful wife and family, I was able to graduate in 2015 with a Masters in Forest Resources. After graduation, I was promoted to Project Forester where I currently manage 70,000 acres of publicly-owned forest around Clarks Hill Lake or Strom Thurmond Lake (depends on which side of the lake your on). I did it! This was everything I had dreamed off and more. I had my dream job, the perfect family, and my health but there was still something missing. In the spring of 2015, I lost a very special woman in my life who had made it possible for me to get the education I did. With her loss came a new responsibly and that was to oversee the management of all family lands. I was proud to accept the challenge and quickly fell in love with managing forestland for private landowners. During this time I also became licensed forester in the state of Georgia and South Carolina. It was in 2016 that I decided that I was going to start my own firm, Big Creek Forestry and Wildlife Consulting. Since then I have worked with landowners to help shape their land management goals by providing them with the knowledge base an tools that I have acquired through life's experiences.
